Overnight Postpartum Doula
A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides support to families during the postpartum period - from birth to 6 months. Their primary role is to offer emotional, physical, and informational support to the new mother and family, helping them adjust to life with a newborn. The goal is to ensure that the mother feels supported, nurtured, and informed as she recovers from childbirth and transitions into motherhood. The services provided by a postpartum doula can vary, but typically include:
Emotional Support
Listening to the new mother’s experiences, helping her process the emotional and physical changes of postpartum life, and offering reassurance.
Physical Support
Assisting with tasks around the house, such as light cleaning, meal preparation, and helping the mother establish a comfortable space for rest. They may also help with baby care, like holding the baby while the mother rests or helping with breastfeeding or bottle-feeding.
Postpartum doulas do not provide medical care, but they can help the family recognize when medical intervention is needed and guide them on how to access the proper care.
Overall, the presence of a postpartum doula can help reduce stress for new parents, improve the early bonding experience with the baby, and enhance overall family well-being during what can be a challenging transition.
Infant Care Guidance
Breastfeeding Support
Educating the family about newborn care, including feeding techniques (breastfeeding or bottle-feeding), diapering, sleep routines, and soothing techniques.
Many postpartum doulas are trained in breastfeeding support and can assist with latch, positioning, and addressing common breastfeeding challenges.
Partner and Sibling Support
Offering advice and reassurance to partners or other family members adjusting to the new dynamics of the household.
Postpartum Recovery
Providing guidance on physical recovery after childbirth, such as pelvic floor health, perineal care, and managing postpartum bleeding or discomfort.
